Before I can undertake an equine massage therapy treatment on your horse I will need permission from your Vet.
Anyone who treats your horse must do this, it is illegal to treat without their consent. This is a simple process - I just need a few details and can contact your vet directly.
I am also happy to work with them on a programme of rehabilitation post injury, illness or operation and dependent on your policy may also be able to work with your insurers if massage therapy is deemed a necessary treatment as part of a claim.
I appreciate that with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic through the UKthat there may be concerns regarding mobile service providers such as myself, travelling around between clients. As the prevalence of the virus increases in the UK, I want to reassure you that I am taking precautions to ensure that I can continue to be available to look after my equine and canine clients without an increased risk to my human clients.
Therefore at this time I will implement the following additional procedures:
I will arrive at your yard / horses having made no side trips, run any errands or made contact with anyone else en route – any personal errands I need to fulfil (shopping, refuelling, etc) I will complete at the end of the day when I can go straight home and ‘decontaminate’ as necessary. All uniform is laundered daily, items that cannot be laundered (eg boots, phone, tablet) will be cleaned/wiped down at the end of each day (and between clients).
If I am visiting multiple clients on any given day I carry with me facilities to wash hands, change clothing and spray down myself, my equipment and my vehicle if this is deemed appropriate at any time. (I do not wear gloves or a mask as this inhibits my ability to do my job.) Between clients I am able to stop off at a neutral location to implement biosecurity precautions.
My own horses are kept at grass livery with only one other persons horse and we take turns to attend to them and again adhere to stringent biosecurity procedures upon arrival and exit. If I have attended to my horses before coming to your yard I will not have come into contact with any other people at that time and will have cleaned down before returning to my vehicle.
I do ask that we all adhere to physical distancing protocols wherever possible when I am in attendance at your yard (I am sorry but I hate the term social distancing, we can still be sociable just not in close proximity, as horse people we all know how to make ourselves heard!).
Frequent hand washing is one of the most effective measures we can all take to protect ourselves and each other, I will bring my own facilities to wash down between horses, please be aware that this may take a little extra time at the end of each session. I would appreciate it if all handlers could do the same.
I would also be grateful if the number of people present "horse side" during a treatment is minimised where possible. If you are happy for me to treat your horses unsupervised I am happy to do this, obviously I can discuss anything with you over the phone afterwards and you will always have my written report to refer to.
I would like to avoid cash payments wherever possible (there are so many germs on money) so please bring you bank card for payment (payment by bank transfer can also be made, please ask me for bank details).
If you are unwell, or have been in contact with anyone who is unwell please let me know as soon as possible so we can discuss the most appropriate course of action.
If you or your immediate family are in an ‘at risk’ group please let me know so that we can determine any additional measures that would be appropriate.
If your health status changes AFTER a treatment (or booking), please let us know ASAP – cancellations due to the virus can be rearranged at no extra charge.
As the current situation is rapidly changing, I will keep you updated with any changes as they occur.
Whilst I personally do not feel threatened physically by the Covid-19 situation (I am lucky enough to be in good health and not to be at risk of serious/life threatening symptoms) I fully understand that everyone’s personal circumstances are different and have different concerns regarding the situation and I am trying to be responsible and respectful of that. I am not trying to ‘overreact’ or ‘panic’ but am merely trying to do my best to ensure that I do not catch or transmit this virus and therefore can keep everyone safe whilst still treating your animals when they need it and throughout this potentially difficult time - and also to keep my business running and a roof over my head!
